This passing weekend Jules and I stepped aboard the beautifully restored Cuthberts Tram around Lake Wendouree for their monthly High Tea. Cuthberts originally started its life as a restaurant tram in Melbourne. After its decommission, it made its way to the iconic Tram Muesum here in Ballarat. On its arrival, the generous muesum volunteers restored the tram to its former glory and is now run for hire and special occasions. In support of the Wala Animal Sanctuary the tram is hosting High Tea every first Sunday of the month from March-December 2018.
Once you step aboard Cuthberts it feels like your taken back in time. The detailing of the restoration is clear as we are shown to our booths by the generous volunteers. As we were handed sweet sparkling wine on arrival you can’t help but get drawn into the details, the deep maroon booths, the ornate roof and of course the beautiful china you're served with to complete the experience. In front of us came an assortment of finger sandwiches, followed by warm savoury pastries, tea was served in our fine china tea cups and we were left in awe of the creative desserts that topped off our afternoon. By the end of the afternoon I never wanted to leave the regal comfort of the tram, it was a luxury I could easily become accustomed to.
If you're looking for a wonderful afternoon of delectable foods and to support the wonderful Volunteers at the Wala Animal Sanctuary then consider the High Tea on Cuthberts for your next Ballarat experience. Tickets are $65 each and can be purchased here.
